Delivered and Archived Returns Statuses

After a return is delivered to a client, it moves to the Delivered Returns page. Its status is shown in the Status column and reflects whether the delivery was successful or where the return is in the signing process.

When a return is archived by a user, it moves to the Archive Returns page, but the statuses are identical to the Delivered Returns page. See the entries below for more information. To see a list of statuses applied to in-progress returns, see Tax Returns In-Process Statuses.

Status Description
Alternate and Uploaded

Documents were uploaded by a user to a Download to PDF return. 

In the Finish pop-up, users can choose to Download to PDF as a delivery option. When the downloaded PDF is signed by the client, a user can then upload it by going to More Actions (...) and selecting Upload Forms.

Alternate Delivery

A return was downloaded as a PDF by a user.

In the Finish pop-up, users can choose to Download to PDF as a delivery option.

Awaiting E-Sign

A return was delivered to a client but no signers have completed the signature process.

Signature Stamping Failed

An error occurred and the signature was not recorded. Return will need to be recalled and redelivered. 

Awaiting Upload

The return is set to be manually signed and the taxpayer has not uploaded their signed documents yet. The return is set to be manually signed if: 

  • The taxpayer has failed knowledge-based authentication. 
  • The taxpayer does not qualify for knowledge-based authentication. 
  • The taxpayer chose to manually sign. 
  • The firm set the return to be manually signed before delivery. 
Delivered to TaxCaddy

A return was delivered to TaxCaddy for e-signing. Returns will not track or display any further changes to the return.

This status is only used when a client has an integration with TaxCaddy. For more information, see Setting up TaxCaddy™ with SafeSend Returns.

E-Signed

The return was e-signed by all clients.

E-Signed - In Office

The return was e-signed in the office by the client(s). 

Manually Signed

The return status was changed by a user in the firm. This status can only be applied by using the global Change Status button.

Partially Signed

The return has been e-signed by one taxpayer.

Note: This status only applies to returns that are marked as married and filing jointly.

Signed & E-Signed

The return status was changed by a user in the firm. This status can only be applied by using the global Change Status button when one taxpayer has e-signed and the other has manually signed.

Note: This status only applies to returns that are marked as married and filing jointly.

When one taxpayer has e-signed, the e-file authorization can be downloaded for that signer.

TaxCaddy Delivery Failed

A return sent to TaxCaddy for e-signing could not be delivered.

This status is only used when a client has an integration with TaxCaddy. For more information, see Setting up TaxCaddy™ with SafeSend Returns.

Uploaded

A taxpayer has uploaded manually signed documents.
