Processing a Return With TaxCaddy™

When using TaxCaddy with SafeSend Returns, you use client information in the two systems to identify taxpayers. This article walks you through the process of uploading a return in SafeSend Returns and performing the steps to match clients.

Uploading a Return

  1. Navigate to Administrative > Client Management in TaxCaddy™. 
  2. Search for the client.
  3. Copy the client's Tax Client ID.
  4. Click Send Tax Returns in SafeSend Returns. 
  5. Click the corresponding tax software button.
  6. Drag the client copy to Drag files here or click to upload
  7. View the Upload Progress bar, it turns green when the upload is complete. 
  8. Enter TaxCaddy's Tax Client ID in the Client ID field in SafeSend Returns. 
  9. Click Submit.

Verifying Information

  1. Locate the return to be opened. 
  2. Click the purple rocket ship icon in the Action menu to open the return.Process.png
  3. Verify the fields below in the Return Information and Taxpayer/Spouse sections of the Client Info tab. SafeSend Returns locates clients in TaxCaddy if any of these fields match: 
    • Client ID: Used to identify a client if the SSN/EIN does not match.
    • SSN/EIN: This is the primary method used to identify a client. The SSN/EIN is on the client's record after the Document Request List (DRL) is created in TaxCaddy. Note: A TaxCaddy client's SSN/EIN will not be available for a match if the DRL has not been created.
    • Name and Email: Used to identify a client if SSN/EIN and Client ID do not match.
      Note: Email addresses with a + (plus sign) are not supported.

Delivering the Return

  1. Navigate to the Delivery Options tab. 
  2. Navigate to the Signature Options section.
  3. Select E-Sign. Note: Manual Sign is not supported for use with TaxCaddy.
  4. Click Finish.
  5. Select Deliver with TaxCaddy.

  6. (Optional) A side-by-side comparison appears when a possible match is found in TaxCaddy. Note: The verification pop-up does not appear if the Bypass manual verification option is turned on in SafeSend Return’s TaxCaddy setup. 
    • Click Accept if a match is found.
    • Click Reject if no match is found.

  7. Click Send.

Additional Information

  • A taxpayer must be connected to a firm in TaxCaddy for a match to occur. Click here to visit SurePrep's Help Center to learn more about sending invites to clients.
  • If a match is not found, completed returns are not uploaded back into TaxCaddy.
  • The Request E-Signatures in TaxCaddy option (configured in SafeSend Return's TaxCaddy settings) changes how returns are delivered to clients.
    • If the setting is disabled: The return is sent to the taxpayer for e-signing in SafeSend Returns. The completed return is uploaded to TaxCaddy after signing is complete.
    • If the setting is enabled: The return is delivered to the client’s profile in TaxCaddy for e-signing. The status of the return in SafeSend Returns changes to DELIVERED TO TAXCADDY and no further updates are recorded in Client Tracking.
